What is the actual length of the brass? The reason I ask is that if the brass is long enough, it qualifies as "hunting caliber".

I know most states want cartridges to be at least 1.25" in length.

DW,

My Starline brass, after several firings, measure 1.150" long.  The overall cartridge length for my loaded ammo is 1.510" - 1.515".

Howdy,

I don't know about how it is here in Peoples Republic of Kalifornia.  Used to be bullet diameter, foot pounds,  and or velocity if I remember right.  Don't think case length is an issue. Been twenty years since I had a CA hunting license, though I plan on getting one next year again, now that I have a son in law that is a hunter!
