Dusty
Thanks for posting a picture of your rifle . I really like the 3/4 magazine . The more I look at it the more I want to cut mine down .

Dusty, just an idea that might make sense or not, but have you tried a blow tube after that two shot group? The fact that you get two shots that are at least reasonable from a deer-or-bigger hunting point of view sorta says to me that the rifle has at least some desire to shoot decently. Were it mine I'd be thinking of any way to keep that fouling nice and soft so the bullet could get at the rifling. Also, I wonder if going to a 1-30 alloy or even softer might help? I can just imagine how much you'd like to get that old girl shooting sweet.

Pitchy

Dusty now that`s just plain cool, a wolf hunter from the old days, go get em buddy.  :D
Yea my Chappy smoothed up real nice after a tune up after reading the article on this site.

I think thats about a 3/4 mag. I have at the muzzel it's .405 and a couple tenths. The best load that hits point of aim at 75yd. is original bullet 1/20 mix,.406 210grn. 55grn. Swiss light compress one .030 card wad under bullet and std.Win.pri. Get two or three shot in the 4" black@75yd. then the next shot might be anywhere around that blk. and gets worse from there till you swab it out. Those original barrels in 40-60 wcf,are known for shallow rifling. Thinking pollishing the bbl. will help. Can feel its rougher than should be ,or might be thats all she's gonna do. ......Dusty
Took the Wolfers Gun to the range after giving it a lapping job using a double patch setup ,one patch trailing behind the leading patch about two in. back on the rod.Used extra fine Colver Compound. Made the bore much smoother. And has a good shine to it. Using the same load as before ,the group size was cut in half ,and at 25yd. farther than before. The old gun gave me four, three shot groups at 100 yd. that measured about 2-1/2 " each. Clean up was very easy . This is the second time I have used the fine polish to smooth a barrel . Each time the accuracy was improved. Not bad for a circa 1884  rifle that has been there ,and is still here workin today............Dusty
