OK folks, I have a questions about which clothing manufacturers make clothing with a high level of authenticity. I am looking for civilian clothing of the period 1875-1885. I have found Walton and Taylor and their stuff looks really good. I particularly like their sack http://www.waltontaylor.com/sacksuit.html

Which other clothing suppliers would cater to the discriminating authentic cowboy or townsman?

Quite a few NCOWS folks swear by James Country Mercantile.

Jean has been a very loyal vendor at the Conventions, and many have had suits, coats, etc. made by her company. Highly authentic, and priced very reasonably.

I'v known five customers who have had three pc. suits made, and they are wonderful. For some reason they all have gravitated to the 'loud' plaid styles favored by Drummers, Riverboat Gambler's and the like. ;) (They are rather flamboyant people, after all.)

I have a Confederate Navy coat she made for me, and several of her pull-over shirts she has made for her shop. She buys collections of period buttons, lace, etc. to use in making clothing whenever she runs across them.
She has also given workshops and lectures on clothing styles, fabrics, etc. at the Convention. She does know her stuff.

p.s.

As an example of pricing, she lists Civillian sack coat, lined, at $100.00, trousers at $45.00 and vest at $50.00-60.00.

Do those prices reflect woolen or cotton clothing?

That is right off their website.
That is why I provided the site link. Surf their site and contact them about special order items. Their choice of fabrics are constantly changing.
Check here for ideas of what fabrics available out there. http://www.reproductionfabrics.com
Suits traditionally were wool, but if you wanted a cotton suit for the summer heat, I'm sure they'd make you one to your specifications..

I sent them an email. I am looking for authenticity so it needs to be wool.

I would suggest River Junction Trade Co.  I believe their web site is http://www.riverjunction.com  If that doesn't work just do a search for them.

+1 for  River Junction.  The only problem with going to their store in McGregor is the inability to walk out without a bunch of bags full of new clothes and accsessories.

Are you suggesting the clothing was supplied by the photographer and those are not their actual clothes?

Many times they were, a lot of those photos were taken "back east."  With out a real source for the picture you never know.  Sometimes if you find several pictures by the same photographer you see different guys with the same guns and clothing.

A good example, I can't remember who took them but there is a series from some where in the south west of several Indians, all armed with a Wesson target rifle.

How interesting. I really like the look of the feller in the back row. I like the shirt, vest and coat combo.

So is that pic the OP post a "back east" picture or one take in the western lands? I'm liking the spur straps the two seated guys are wearing.

Hi

I ordered a Muslin banded collar shirt and a Pillow ticking banded collar shirt from James Country Mercantile.  I'm a 48 Long or 17.5 x 35 shirt size and the shirts fit as promised.  The shirts seem well made, but I haven't washed them yet.  They are light weight, which is good since its already 87 here in Norman OK.  I'm pretty happy with my purchases.
