Hey All, I'm thinking of throwing down a few sawbacks on Lee's DC-457-340-F mold for use in my .45-75.

Have any of you used this bullet in your own .45-75? I would use it as cast and pan lubed.

Wondering what kind of groups are possible with that pill In my Uberti.

Their 405 g bullet works pretty good out to 400 yds. Probley be good past that iffen I knew what I was doin. WM

Muchas gracias Wildman, that bodes well for the 340 if the groove depth on my rifle is right for it. Nice thing about the Lee molds is that they're dirt cheap and handles come with.

Hey Wyldwylliam, I have one of the Lee 340 F moulds like you said they are cheap but it has cast goob bullets for my 45-75 wcf. my rifle is a third model with a pretty good bore and the Lee 340 F .457 has shot good in it. I have an original 45-75 wcf. circa 1880 mould that cast great bullets ,and the two bullets look a lot alike . Give one a try , I think you will like it. Dusty.

Thanks a lot, Dusty, that is a great recommendation, think I'll order it forthwith. Now all I've gotta do is find the lead.

Cheers.

Does it hold much lube or is it pretty much a smokeless bullet?  I have a pard who says he will help me get started if I gather the needed prerequisites.

Slowhand, I ended up going with the Lyman 457192 which is as close as I could get to the original bullet for this cartridge. It works very well in my rifle.

Grapeshot

The targets here were made with my New Uberti M1876 Carbine and a Lee 405 grain RNFP.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

wyldwylliam

Those look like good groups. What range were you shooting?

Roosterman

Check your twist. Mine has a 1 in 22.5 and shoots the 405 the best.
