Any opinions on what the gap should be?  I have two with .004 gaps, but I recently saw one with at least a .025 gap that sounded like a rattle.

gap should be no more than .008. but I have seen a few that shoot well around .010. but .025 is way too much.

0,004, which is 0.1 mm, is adequate, a great compromise between not too tight and not too wide.

it is very easy to measure, just a piece of paper, the commonly used in xerox machines or scaners, should  slide between barrel and cilinder with no troubles.

smaller than that might cause problems, as the cilynder dillates when firing,  thought my Centaure Belgian 1860 army, works with less than that without trouble.

.004 is great.  The less blow by, the less fouling of base pin.
