Howdy, all.

I've got a couple of Uberti 1858's that have quite a bit of wood standing proud of the frame on the right grip. I'd like to sand it down and re-finish the sanded areas without refinishing the entire grip. What is the original stain/finish used by Uberti? It doesn't have to be a perfect match, just good enough. Thanks.

Many have asked about the finish, Uberti uses a reddish poly/varnish finish.
Your question might be a first  :)  because most want to remove it and refinish, I suggest that route.

I use water soluble strip-ez , and 4 0000 steel wool, I find two coats will strip the grip to bare wood.
Delute with water, alllow to dry, you can then fit the proud standing wood.
Orginial Remington grips were oil finished, Boiled linseed oils , or Tung oils may be used.
I think you will be please with the finish.

Yeah, I guess I'm an odd duck. I actually find that red finish rather attractive. :)

Thanks for the advice! I'll try matching that red poly/varnish first, and if it looks like hell when I'm done, I'll go your route.

I just sanded the finish off on my 75's untill it was off, bare in the more normal wear spots, then applied lemon furniture oil. Looks good to me.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

I just sanded them down with a fine sand paper and finished then with a little tru oil and they look good. I tried to ma the the color but to no avail so I went with the tru oil.
