This is my first post in SCORRS.

My first C&B was a brass frame 44 cal "51 Navy" bought in a gun store in 1969.  It was followed by a "1858 Remington" from Dixie Gun Works in 1970.  I gave them both to a friend when I moved overseas in 1975.

I returned to percussion revolvers in 1988 but just now bought a Remington NMA from Taylors.  I couldn't resist the Uberti casehardened frame model  ;)

When I try to reinstall the cylinder with the hammer on half cock the very tip of the hand gets in the way.  There is no clearance with the frame to jockey the cylinder.  I end up having to depress the tip of the hand with a small screw driver while pushing the cylinder in.  Almost need three hands.  I certainly couldn't imagine fast swap outs of spare cylinders.

Mine does the same thing.  What I end up doing is using my right thumb to hold the hammer between resting and half cock so the hand is out of the way and the cylinder stop is down. The cylinder slides all the way in and you just put the pin in.

Roll the cylinder in slightly, it will push the hand up out of the way as you insert it.

Always remove a Remington cylinder with a slight clockwise rotation on the right side of the frame.
When installing the cylinder, insert it from the left side of the frame with a slight clockwise rotation.

Blair, don't you mean to say "a slight clockwise rotation" when reinstalling the cylinder? Inserting the cylinder into the left side and rolling the cylinder so it pushes the hand into its cutout has me rotating the cylinder counter clockwise. Oh well, I think Roshi will probably try it both ways to se which works for him.
