Sir Charles deMouton-Black

I am finally getting close to restoring my Mk III Ross stock.  I have the wood for the extension, and I found the original hand guard in a drawer where I put it about 15 years ago so I could easily find it!  I have located a Mk III nosecap and am just waiting for the owner to remove it from a ratty old DP piece.

For joining the extension, I have heard that the weak point of the joint is to original stock;- if it is oil soaked.  There is a danger that on the first time you attempt to withdraw the bayonet from the "enemy" wooden dowels will pull out of the oil-soaked forend'  The remedy/preventative measure is to use the threaded portion of long screws.  Make the holes in the forend small enough for the threads at the tip of the screw to bite into the holes (in the forend) and secure them with epoxy. The holes in the new extension are a looser fit and epoxied in at the correct length and orientation so the bayonet fits properly and locks into the front band.  Make sure it all fits before applying the epoxy.

Yes; I have enough .308/7.62 NATO cases to last several lifetimes.

Troopers:

I just ran across this thread again.  The Mauser 91 is no more.  It is the same rifle that almost cost me my right thumb.  It fired out of battery back in early October.  And we never found the bolt.  The rifle sustained other damage, so it is now a wall-hanger.

So my only choice now is my Krag.  It is all original except the front sight(?).

Col:

Thank you for the prayers.  It is coming back.  I still need to get a carpal tunnel reaming.  And another procedure to remove scarring.
Actually I can shoot my single action revolvers one-handed again, but it is a "stretch" to do it well these days.
