Wondering if seperated moose milk can be salvaged?
My pistol baths have lost they're white appearance. Gone back to clear water with oil on top and doesn't seem to want to go back into solution with a hand whisk.

I've heard that mineral oil will only disperse in water at about a 10% rate.

I know my ballistol/water spritzer always separates between uses.  I just "shake before using."

I put more ballistol than can possibly dissolve in the water in the container.  That way, when I'm at an away match, the water gets used up long before the extra ballistol on top.  I only have to add water to have more moose milk.

I see this as an advantage, actually.

By shaking before using, you get a 1/10 mix of ballistol/water.  This is drawn into the sprayer from the bottom of the container.

Just shake it up and it will be fine.

The Moosemilk in my pistol spa is now two years old.  It looks ugly but works good.  I may replace it, but as long as it is working good, what's the point?  Clean guns are the goal and mine are clean.

Mad Mucus,
Are you sure you are using Ballistol or a water soluble oil (like for use in machine shops during cutting & drilling)? I've had storage bottles of ballistol/water stay milky and seperate a little but they always had a milk layer regardless of whether there was a oil layer on top. If your's is clear like water there's something wrong. I am not sure if mineral oil by itself is at all water soluble without some additive emulsifier. If you swallow mineral oil it just goes right on through without being digested. Vets have used it for many years for colic in horses.

Came from a sealed bottle just like this one  ;) and used to look like this.....

Have used these two batches of 1:10 many times in white milk-like form..... as stated they have separated and will not go back into solution. Both sealed tubs have a slight green watery translucent appearance with a thickish oil slick on top.

Guns come out slick with oil :P
May be time to dump it.

MM,
I suspect the emulsifier in the Ballistol has oxidized or gotten bacteria of something that has modified the chemical make up and thus the separation. Consider either throwing it out and starting over or try adding a little detergent to it to see if it remixes.
