Well, folks, I will add a poll to this topic.

Since this is an offspring from TFS, it might  be a waste of time and effort to put up a leather forum. Then again, it might not and it can be a value to this forum and the members.

I am receiving many requests about new boards now... and don't get me wrong, I am more than willing to help out.
But....Delmonico has a point when he asks. Will it be used after TFS is back up? Can other existing boards be used?

Feel free to discuss and remember: If someone disagrees with you, it is just another way of saying...
I might agree, but I need more meat on the bone to chew on.  ;)

Marshall, I like your site because pictures are a lot easier to post than on the TFS.  However, I don't post a ton because I enjoy reading what others have to say.

Do you mean 'if' it ever comes back up...and even 'if' it ever comes back up, 'if' it remains up for any length of time without crashing over and over and over again?

No offense, but not having heard anything from the owner of TFS for what, weeks now? ...I'd say #$%^ TFS, don't rely on it for anything, least of all 'coming back up'.

Is that a harsh attitude to take? Maybe.  But no harsher than TFS's owner virtually telling everyone else to '#$%^ off', he'll get around to whatever he's going to do or say regarding the site when he's good and ready.

In other words, don't count on TFS for anything.  If you want a leather forum, I'd suggest you start one here.

I'll have to go with Del on this one too!  Don't think a leather forum is needed here.  JMHO! ;)

I think a leather forum would be a good idea. There seem to be a lot of folks that are falling away from TFS and may not be headed back there when/if it comes back online. It never really came back last time with the same feel it had before and this down time may further detract from it's appeal to some. Only time will tell.

I make all my own leather goods. They are period correct, or at least are for the most part. There are a lot of folks that like the modern, cut-down holsters and other things that aren't period correct. How will that fit with the intent of "The Historic Society"? Seems to me there is the potential for modern leather users to shy away from a forum that is just for historic, or period correct, leather. I would be hesitant to post my stuff on a historic forum because it may not be welcome if there is something that makes the stuff not period correct.

I have a question for you: if you put up a leather forum and it doesn't get much use, how much trouble is it to take it off again?

:)I have a question for the eight people who voted no on the pole. Do you do any leather work??? If not why did you vote not to have a forum.

Yes I do, not a whole lot, mostly what was called bunkhouse gear, but I do what I need to when I need sumthing.  My best was a pair of boots, not top quality, but served my use for 2 years and looked similar to other homemade boots I've seen in museums.  Used the metal swivel of an original and made my razor strop, also the case for the razor.  Yep I can shave with it do quite often to keep in practice.  Made several knife sheaves for knives I have made, made other objects to numerous to mention.

I plan on making some brown walnut hull dye this fall and try it for more of that homemade look.

As I said, I'm not against it, but with "The Old Fashioned Way" as a place to post how to make stuff I see no need for it.  In fact Mo Gurrila posted a couple nice things there today.

Del: I have to disagree with you on the old fashion way part. I just checked it out, after having a hard time finding it. the only leather working parts were By Morgilla. And I doubt if he would have posted over there if there would have been a leather forum. I don't know if you have noticed or not, but since the TFS has been down more and more TFS menbers are coming to this board. Even if TFS go's back up I think this board will maintain most of them here And also as more come to this board you will have more people who are interested in a leather foum.  I my self am interestedf in the old fashion way of making some things. But doing leather work the cowboy way  should have its own forum. This board offers more than any other board i have seen, and is more user friendly. So why not a Leather Forum? Just JMHP For what it is worth Thank you

Poll is closed and with the feedback here, in PMs and emails, we have decided to give it a shot.

Ok, I need a short and sweet name for the board. Post suggestions here.

I need 2 moderators with more than average knowledge about this topic. For those interested, send me a PM.
