Cleaning BP Lube from Brass

Once-in-awhile I'll get several trays of Big Lube BP Lead Bullets with a lot of lube in the lube groove.  When I seat the bullet, the mouth of the case shaves of the excess lube and leaves it in the crimp groove.  I can scrape it off or advance to the crimping stage.  When crimping, the lube will be deposited on the outside of the cartridge.  I can either wipe off the excess lube after each cartridge is loaded or wait until I'm done reloading all cartridges.  Either way, it's a pain in the butt. :-\    I've thought about running them in the tumbler, but I've read that one shouldn't tumble loaded cartridges.  What do you all do, or do you not have that problem with excessive lube on your cases?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Never had that problem, the lube doesn't stick out past the edge of the bullet.

The case should be flared enough it doesn't shave anything.

I shoot .38 WCF and try to flare the case just enough that the base of the bullet starts.  I'll try flareing a little more so that the bullet goes down a little closer to the lube groove.

You can flare it more, but doing so will cause you to lose more cases to cracking.

I sit in front of the T.V. with a paper towel saturated in alcohol and wipe them and put them in boxes.  Goes pretty fast.  I do this with the 38-40 rounds but don't bother with the .38 specials.

I don't worry about it, I spray a little Ballistol on a paper towel and wipe off bullet and case lube. Good Luck :)

That should be enough, I don't like to flare them any more than necessary to keep from shaving lead in order to make your brass last. Generally the the lube is even with the bullet so I havent had the problem with getting lube on the case and haven't noticed any in the crimp groove either.

It might be the difference in the bullet, I have only loaded the mav44 and 45JP big lubes.

I roll them in between some old rags anyway to get the case lube off of the 44wcf cartridges.

I have a set of cowboy dies from rcbs.  The only advantage I see in them over a regular set of dies is the way they flare the neck. It's not necessarily a wide flare, more of a slight expanding of the diameter of the neck so my bullets drop in the case and stop just as the lub ring comes past the top of the cartridge.  I use DD 45 ROA bullet mold with SPg lube.  No problem with leaving a mess.  If there is,just wipe off as I put  the cartridges in the box as I watch tv.
