After being fairly sure I was going to grab a pair of smokewagons since I wanted .44WCF, I'm now looking at jumping ship to New Vaqueros in .45Colt, 4 5/8" from LongHunters.

My only remaining questions are SS or blued, and standard or SB hammers.

I have stainless handguns, but none with a high polish finish.  Does glare from sunlight interfere with aiming much?  Any other pros or cons?

If they still did blue CCH, I'd go that way, even though the chemical CCH didn't hold up well, but the solid blue just doen't look quite right to me.

The SB hammers look appealing, since I hate reaching up over the long spur on my cimarron, but I don't have enough time on a SB hammered gun to really know for sure.  I'd like to get it right since I'd be getting them setup from LH.

I have a pair of .357 SS with the bead blasted finish that came from Long Hunter.  My son really likes the bead blasted finish; he'll be shooting them when he gets a bit older.  The solid blue just looks awful to me.  The bead blasted finish looks pretty black/dirty after a match with smokeless loads; I imagine it would be really black using BP.  I'll find out soon  :).

I bought a pair of the SB hammers and put on them because I have small hands.  The SB hammers work pretty good for me because I shoot duelist. My son however uses both hands and they actually are a little low when fully cocked and I may switch them back for that reason.  My point here is if your hands medium to big in size  or you shoot with both hands on your gun then I would not get the SB hammers.

I have a pair of New Vaquero Bisleys in polished SS and they don't seem to bother me.  I don't have SB hammers so I can't help you there.

Well, I just ordered a pair of SS .45LC 4-5/8", so I'm all in on the SS.  Went with stock hammers.

I think you will like them.  By the way mine are on .45LC also.

Yes, I've resigned myself to the fact that ill have some work to do with a 40LPI checkering file and perhaps some careful masking and judicious bead blasting.  I just couldn't do the blue without the color case, and while aesthetically, I love my Cimarron model P and 4 clicks, these will see some field use and a lot higher round count,
so I like the idea of 6 rds, and a platform that will take a lot of use.

I prefer the K-Models and black (or other color) on the front blades.
But my opinion only---Your mileage may vary.
