I'm sure this has been beat to death, but what is the heaviest .357 load you would shoot in a Uberti cattleman? I don't want to shoot full power loads, just something that will stop a hog if I come across one in the woods.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place

The gun should be safe with any SAAMI-spec ammo.  Certainly avoid loads that say "Ruger or T/C only"

Would the PMC 158gr JSP be to much for the uberti?

Shotgun Franklin

Nope. Shoot a few first to see how comfortable you are with'm.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

The Europeans are harder on their manufactured firearms than we are here. All firearms manufactured in Italy are subject to proof loads loaded 25% over the industry maximum. I'd shoot what ever ammunition manufacturers had to offer and not worry about it. My wife has a pair of Uberti .357's and I don't think twice about loading them with factory equivalent handloads.

Most manufacterers here proof test their guns here in the USA at the factory at a 50% over pressure load.

In the days of black powder, it was always a double charge for proofing in the US.
