Should we make a statement?

Folks,

A few days ago, I tried to contact $A$$ headquarters to see if they was an official statement direct from the Mild Bunch regard if $A$$ would, in fact, be of the mind that, the NATO Alliance, an attack of one type of firearm is an attack on all...

The person I spoke with at $A$$ HQ had no comment, nor could she even say if there would be one forthcoming...

After this event, I am thinking the GAF should do something to make a strong and clear statement regarding our beliefs as a group...

What say you all?

Of course, Scout would have the final sayso...

Making a political stand for or against a controversial subject as an organization is risky at best.  One result could be the GAF (or any other CAS group) being branded as a "far-right extremist militia group".

Each of us should individually stand up for what we believe is right, and support efforts to protect our rights, through contact with our Congressional Reps, Senators, and the ballot box.  Even participate in a demonstration if you wish but as a citizen and patriot, NOT as a "GAF Member".  Having "our group" make an endorsement,  statement or comment on political issues will ultimately only end up hurting the group as a whole.

Guns, et al.,

Fair enough then. No "official" statement shall be warranted...

As for me though, I know the history of American military and civilian firearms development. Hence, I also know the claptrap over so-called "semi-automatic assault weapons" is a complete and utter fabrication. I own more than one of these types of firearms and I REFUSE to be pushed and bullied by small-minded folks like Diane Feinstein and her firearm fearing siblings in the media, the legislature, and the executive branches of our government...

I will also state there ARE folks within the sport of CAS who will WILLING go along in an effort to delay things, to appease the beast for a short bit...

A group statement always has the potential to cut both ways.

In our current environment (best described as an "anti-gun frenzy") an organization that relies on Second Amendment rights for its existence (as all the shooting sports do) might want to make a "considered statement."

This is tough to do, but not impossible.

Gentlemen,  It is my sentiment that I agree with what the majority of folks have shared.  I believe there are some posts on the SASS wire regarding RKBA and sharing information on rallies and local/regional/national pro 2nd Amendment activities.  That is probably as far as SASS or the GAF for that matter should go in my opinion.  A volunteer group that has the word "Army" in its title is very easily misconstrued by the lame stream media.  Just think of a 3rd person who is a journalist reading these boards.  What opinion would they come away with of us?  The beauty of our political system is that it allows us as individuals to assemble publicly and voice our concerns; and that is indeed what has been happening all around this country.

Hi

I agree that would be painted with the same brush.  On the other side of the coin is the other fact that if we're not with the NRA (for example) then we're seen as against them by the mainstream media and the government.  I'm NOT against the NRA and I also feel that have a perfect right to own whatever weapons I want to.  I'm currently shopping for an 1873 Winchester replica and I'm saving money just in case somebody invents a light saber before I get too old to prune trees with one.

Years ago the Kansas Trap Association was the only gun group in Kansas that didn't support either concealed carry or letting the old gun ban expire (been a while and I forgot), but the other groups still remember that they didn't support them.
