Your grip preference for a blued,1st gen. BP framed SAA.....ivory or MOP?

Ivory.
And someone has to say it, so I will:
QuotePatton: They're ivory. Only a pimp from a cheap New Orleans whorehouse would carry a pearl-handled pistol.

I like them both, and real cowboys did not fear the whorehouse. I would lean toward Ivory for one reason:  I have an engraving pattern I am thinking about.
"We tried a desperate game and lost. But we are rough men used to rough ways, and we will abide by the consequences."

St. George

Ivory - for its density and 'warm' feel.

Mother of Pearl has a 'glassy' feel to my hand.

From what I've read, Ivory is durable. Mother of Pearl is brittle.
A work in progress.

With age Ivory might shrink some and if it's handled with discolor. Mother of Pearl tends to break. Shrinkage takes time and the discoloration seems to add a mellow glow to grips. Broke is broke.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

I have owned both.  The nicest Colt I ever owned was a 4 3/4 38-40 with MOP and a carved steer head.  Went to pay for babies long time ago.

If I am buying today it is ivory.  +1 to St George and SG Franklin.
