So I finally own a real Colt. I know I'll get some heat for not getting it in a traditional caliber but I wanted to stick to 38 Special since all my other cowboy guns are in that caliber. Either way she is a gorgeous pistol and I'm happy to have found her.

She is a third generation built in the 70s. Started life as a 357 Mag but the previous owner had her changed to 45 LC and then to 38 Special.  Let me know what ya'll think of her.

I'm proud for ya. Enjoy your gun. If you find a .357 culinder laying around it'll be easy enough to switch back to the original caliber.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

One hell of a lot of older Colt Single Action Army revolvers started life as .32-20s, .38-40s and .357 Magnums and were later redone to .45 Colt - thanks in large part to the popularity of small-screen Westerns.

I'll say this - having owned a 5 1/2" .357 - the .44 and .45 versions are much lighter feeling when handling the weapon, than are the smaller calibers - they feel more 'alive', and for me, they instinctively point better.

Keep an eye out for a .357 cylinder - it'll allow you a much wider choice of bullets and performance.

And - keep saving your money.

Good Luck!

Vaya,

I found a .357  cylinder for her. Now to find her a matching partner.

Despite my desire to not hijack the thread, I have to know, is that one of Swamp Fox knives underneath your fine Colt revolver?

The knife was made by Tim Ridge at Swamp Fox Knives http://swampfoxknives.com/. Sort of a custom order I had him do for my Cowboy rig. I love the way it came out.

The Colt I found for sale on another forum.
