I'm not trying to blitz all the boards and I know this is not about Spencers but I thought I would post this here so folks I know could read it.

Some of you folks may have seen this on the Sass wire but it came to my attention that an engrave Henry rifle belonging to my Great, Great, Great Uncle Major Samuel Hymer is up for sale in an suction in Maine.  Major (then Captain) Hymer won the medal of honor on October 13, 1864 at Buzzards Roost Gap Georgia when he an 41 men under his command held off 30,000 Confederate troops with 70 artillery pieces for 12 hours.  No thats not a typo, 30,000 confederates, 700 artillery pieces.  6,000 confederate troops were actually involved in the fight so that Hymer and his men were out numbered by 142 to 1!

The Henry is engraved with Hymer's Name, rank, and unit along with the motto "In God We Trust."  This was particularly fitting as he was a minister before the war.

To see the gun, read the amazing story about how he won the Medal of Honor and learn about the effort to get the rifle back take a look at

Feel free to pass the information on to any interested party or post it on any interested boards

Samuel Hymer is also my GGG Uncle.  Been doing research for my family (GGG Grandmother, Nancy Hymer-Thompson ( Samuel's sister).  Please feel free to email me if you have any other info on the family. (metbird70@gmail.com)  I am also trying to find out what happened to his medals.
