It all started when I went to put on my holster for my 1851 to go shootin. I hadn't been out to the range in a long time.
Well, it seems it must of been longer than I thought. I couldn't buckle the belt. So off to ebay to see what was there. I started noticing a few holster labeled as SASS and CAS holsters.
Being curious as too what those 2 labels meant, I did what I always do. Did a search on the internet.
Found out there were 3 or 4 active groups here in CT. So  started searching for events.
Found one about 1 1/2 hrs away and one a week after that about 45 minutes away. In the mean time I found this forum and joined right away.
Also just joined SASS and have found some real nice folks in both places. I only wish I had found CAS a few years ago. I have been shooting my 1851 and 1858 remmie for over 20 yrs now and still love the smell of BP smoke. Now that I have the time and have found CAS I will be shootin more often.

Amen!

I thought the same thing when I started CAS. Hubby had been participating for about 10 years before it even entered my consciousness that I'd like it. Despite being last, I was hooked after my first match.

Welcome to western action shooting, Pard.

SASS is the largest, but not the only group within this sport.  NCOWS can be located within this forum and caters to those who are serious about the historical aspects of the Old West.  That does not say that many in SASS are equally interested in old west history and live and dress the part.  Usually the main thing is to get shooting asap at the closest club, and in CT that is likely to be a SASS affiliated club.

Not to lean on you, but as you are shooting cap&ball revolvers, I thought you should know about us.

Me, I didn't follow my advice and joined NCOWS, but have never shot at an NCOWS club.  Our local club started before SASS really came to town, and I have never seen the need to change.  To each his own drummer ???
NCOWS #1154, SCORRS, STORM, BROW, 1860 Henry, Dirty Rat 502, CHINOOK COUNTRY
THE SUBLYME & HOLY ORDER OF THE SOOT (SHOTS)
Those who are no longer ignorant of History may relive it,

Thanks Sir Charles,

It seems there are no NCOWS here in CT. But there are 3 or 4 CAS groups here. I was just looking at few sites for CAS Events. The Northeast Regionals look like a lot of fun. Even noticed a few from florida have signed up for it. Will go for that even if it's just to watch a larger shoot and get to know more folks. Plus a lot of vendors there.

There's no NCOWS that I know of in Ohio. The closest would be a club in Indiana. There are SASS clubs shooting every weekend in Ohio.
