Hi y'all, I've got a question.  Does anybody know of a metallic cartridge that, at the brim, is 25 grains even?   I bought myself a Remington '58 and want a powder measure that is out of the ordinary.  I'm guessing that a 38 spl. is around 10-18, but I don't really have a clue ::)

I'd say do some measuring and see.  A few years back when I was shooting Elephant brand BP, I measured a few.  A .38LC case gave me 22gr weight and approximately 20gr volume of Elephant 3F.  A .38 Spcl case gave 25gr weight and approx. 23gr volume.  Fatter cases (9mm, etc.) might make for easier dipping.  You can always fill in the bottom of a case with epoxy or something to lessen the volume until it matches what you need (or cut off the top).  I've filled in some small cases by melting solder inside to get a specific size for certain smokeless loads.

38 special brass = 20 gr
357 brass         = 25 gr
44 special brass = 30 gr
44 mag brass    = 35 gr

This is by volume not by weight. Which is the way Black Powder is measured.

Old Reloaders used to take a larger capacity case than what you need and trim the case back, slowly, until it holds the amount you actually need. Having gotten the case trimmed to what you want, solder a wire handle to it. You wind up with a custom powder scoop.
