Richards Mason front sight replacement

I finally got a new front sight from VTI.  There seems to be about a third of the old sight left in the slot.  How would you all go about getting this bit of old sight out so that I can put the new one in.  I have tried tapping it out with a sharp tool but that did not work.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Heat.  You need a micro torch and an assistant as well as one of those "jewelry" screw drivers the same size as the slot.  Assistant either runs the micro and you use the driver like a chisel or vise versa.  Larger flame will 86 the bluing.
