5 rds of Pyrodex "Select"
5 rds of GOEX FFg
5 rds of 777 FFg
5 rds of Pyrodex "P"
5 rds of H335 (for "baselining" the barrel between tests)

My lube was a stick of crisco, 1/2 bar of canning parafin, 4 table spoons Murphy's oil soap, one wax toilet ring seal (new).

The day at the range with the 38-55 came to a screaching halt after my front sight had worked its way loose.
For those of you thinking of getting a barrel from Numrich and rebarreling your Win 94, get the taller .310 front sight...not the .290"...otherwise, you will shoot 4 inches too high.

Before my sight worked its way loose, I was getting solid 3" groups at 25 and 50 yards. (maybe one "flyer" at the end of 5 rounds, but, still not bad for iron sights)

The lube held up very well, IMHO.

The pyrodex P and "Select" were VERY dirty, but, had some of the best groups.
(the H335 actually had smaller groups...but, this is the 'Darksiders Den')

The GOEX loads and 777 were not reliable enough to report here...as that is when the front sight nearly walked off the barrel.   >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(

Anyhow, the only loads not compressed were 777 and H335. The GOEX, "P" and "Select" were each at 48gr Vol with .325" compression.

I loaded everything with a 38" drop tube. WLR primers, fire formed W-W 38-55 cases. (FYI: Fire formed cases make a HUGE difference in how well they load and seat the bullets)

hopefully, next week I can have everything working again and the front sight reset.

Good to hear your report. I use a similar lube formula I use Toilet bowl ring ,Crisco, Olive oil, and a Candle.

I get great results from Schutezen,Elephant or Pyrodex RS.

I just add a little more Crisco for the winter.

I think we are blessed with the Big Lube Boolits (tm) that hold a ton of lube ;)

I think I am going to up the parafin to a full "bar" of it and use a bit more Murphy's Oil soap so that it is a bit harder.

The petroleum products in the Harvey's bol-wax ring should keep it from "drying out" when left on the shelf.

Lube, and lots of it seems to be the universal answer.  I'm workin on a new 38-55 design that will haul lube like the DD/PRS 45-385 for lever rifles, mostly cuz I got me one.  I've been workin' on the engineering drawings for several months now, including interruptions cuz of havin' to pay bills, but now it's mostly done.

I expect to order a couple of LEE six cavity molds in the next couple of weeks.

This design will once again haul copious quantities of bore washin' lube.  I want a dual purpose boolit that kin kill Bambi and ring Bufflers out to 300 yards.

More lube is good. . .

Yer in Mason,

I've lost a lot of contacts cuz of the crash over on TFS.  Please do me a favor and send off an emule to rrhody@spwl.net and remind me.  I'll put it in the order box and get back to you soon as the balloon goes up.

Thanks,
