Not a Meth lab nor was it a bomb.  The gas leak theory is still out there, but no firm cause is out yet.

No Rick.  This is a pretty new subdivision with Natural Gas and no propane.

The Hoosier state gained its status 11 December 1816.  Yes, it is old.  It is the 19th state of the Union, and the 3rd state after the turn of the 19th century.  Today's history tidbit.

Oh yes, it is my home state I'm proud to say.   :D

I was always fond of "You can't rollerskate in a buffalo herd" myself.   8)

Here's one I always sing when I cross the state line on my way home for a visit.

What a great, informative, and entertaining thread!

Thanks to all who thought of us here in Hoosier-Land.

Major 2 is right, the explosion was not near our neighborhood, but was about 8 to 10 miles from Fort Baileywyck, but my wife & I (while watching the TV) heard AND FELT the explosion.  It showed up on the local readings of the Richter Scale, located in a scientific office 30 miles away.

I have no "fer sure" info, but the rumors of it being an "insurance scam" are getting a lot of attention.  No explanation yet, but officials said they have ruled out a bomb, a methamphetamine lab and an airplane crash.  Natural gas is the most likely cause, but NOT the pipes & delivery system so far ... the gas company obviously has tested thoroughly and completely, but only time will tell.

And yes, MY meth(ane) lab is still working fine.  ... which is why my wife calls me "an old fart" or so she says.  :o  ::)

Thanks!

I got a bad back that feels broken sometimes ... does that count?   ;)

It's official.  The Mayor just announced on the Evening News that the explosion is now officially a a criminal AND double homicide investigation.

The helo pics of the neighborhood show a serious explosion pattern that doesn't look like a simple gas explosion ... there was something else (very energetic, I might add) that "accelerated" or started the explosion.

ATF is still hanging around the area.  A search for a white van is underway.  It had been spotted in the 'hood for several weeks prior to the Boom.

I hope they catch the perps ASAP.  We have a decent Police force, so they probably will.

SHB, It's good to know that you and your's were not affected by the explosion. There's a bunch of us old codgers that have a bunch of gas. I think that is just another part of getting older.
