Bunch a ole scudders!

I lucked on to a Great Western O/U in .38 S&W. Same size as the original Remington and all the poop I need in a gun of this size.
In Kanuckistan, this gun is a "prohibited firearm", 'grandfathered' to the current owners. We used to have pocket pistol matches, but so few people are 'grandfathered' that now we don't. Canadian society is safer as a result .... ;>)

This 'prohib' status applies to any handgun with a 4" or less barrel, but you are 'free' to own a .44 Magnum (or any handgun)with a longer barrel, a ballistically superior firearm. Serves to show how arbitrary and non-sensical gun laws are in general.

If anyone is looking for a Uberti Derringer, there is one for sale on GB right now with under 3 days left.
Its listed as--- UBERTI derringer "MAVERICK .45"...45LC NICE 45

I've no connection to the seller and not trying to help it sell ....but the buy it now price seems kinda reasonable.

I don't know what they go for... so it may be a good price for one of you looking for one with stag grips. I wish I had a few bucks to spend but money is too tight right now.

I will not dispute the quality of the Uberti derringers.  They are very nice.  And I realize that others besides NCOWS members can view and comment on this thread.  But, since this thread originated as a thread passing on the information for what is NCOWS approved, it is necessary for me to state here that the Uberti Maverick 45 is not NCOWS approved and cannot be used at NCOWS events.  Still, it is a nice derringer at a reasonable price.

OK Tom:

We should get together a comparative picture of some of the frame variations of the Uberti derringer.

That'd help folks who are shopping.

I have reviewed the (38 cal.) Uberti ( with my Authenticity Committee )
Today, I handled one belonging to a SASS shooter ( whom BTW has a brief Case size gun tote with 11 models including
two Remington and two UMC models , and a Uberti Sharps 4 barrel model....

I stand ready to approve it for NCOWS use pending Congress vote ....

I'm not up NCOWS rules, especially when it comes to acceptable derringers. I just understand the basics of whats not allowed. (I didn't want to side track the thread.... Sorry if I did that..)

But it is interesting to learn what is accepted, whats not and what has yet to be decided upon. At any rate, I still think the Uberti is a pretty piece.

Okla Tom provided a photo comparison of the

Uberti 38  and the Maverick/IAR  45

I find the 38 Cal. is a close copy in shape & size to the Remington

however, the  45 cal. Maverick/IAR is quite bit larger and I can not see to it's approval.

Fly in the ointment:

I won an Auction for a 38 cal Uberti  derringer.  It transfered into Ok Toms shop.  To our amazement its was the larger frame model stampec "Maverick 38/.357"

I'd like to get together specimens of all three for comparison photography.

confusing yes ?

Then Uberti made the small frame 38..... but the 357 & 45 IAR Maverick is the larger frame ?

here is the photo Brian (OKLA Tom) provided

clearly one can see the sizes

Ya know, I'm just a duma$$ ex tanker, but for the life of me, I can't see HOW a beautiful reproduction as that Maverick/IAR 45 is - which LOOKS exactly like the smaller caliber version - would be condemned to UN-approved for NCOWS.  Size?  REALLY?!

At ten feet it's a dead ringer (and yes, I know the "10-foot rule" doesn't exist, OFFICIALLY) but perhaps it should in this case.

It's not like we're talking about the high quality, but expanded-past-authentic-looking Bond derringers available, but one that - if NOT shown next to an original OR the 38 cal Uberti - would fool most of the discriminating viewers.  (If you didn't let them see the size of the hole, they'd have nothing else to go by.)

I'm all for authenticity, but in this case, I think we're doing our organization a grave disservice.

Just my 2 cents worth ... and that may NOT be worth 2 cents, but ...
