A US pal of mine that restores antique marine steam engines for a living made himself am 1862 pattern Gatling, the carriage and limber as well. It's modelled after one in the British War Museum.
It is the model that pre-dates brass cartridges, using steel chamber inserts that accept a .58 calibre Enfield cartridge. The gun is a joy to behold and impressive to fire!
He has documentation from the BATF to the effect that is is not a 'machine gun', so that isn't an issue. It's been fired in sports arenas and re-enactment venues without the arrival of a SWAT unit.

He has the castings on hand for a second gun. If anyone is interested, send me a PM and I'll pass along his contact info and pics. Toys like this don't come cheap, but a re-enactment group could afford it.

fella's you won't believe this, but right now on gunbroker there is a place selling gatling guns for $6,199 +$350 shipping to the lower 48. Full size, fire 45lc.  The one they have in the pics is the one seen on an episode of "Hell on Wheels" that aired this month. Brothers, if I ever there was a time I lamented the lack of six and a half thousand bucks, this would be it! :-[

Wait until the enviro-saviours find out he's spiiting BBs into a pond that could be frequented by waterfowl .....

My pals' Gat will be featured at the 'SteamCon' event to be held later this month at the Bellevue, Washington Hyatt-Regency. I hope to be there as part of the gun crew.

There is a debate today among the regents of the University of Colorado, in Boulder, as to whether to allow CCW licensed students to pack on-campus. This has been kicking around the state Supreme Court, but still goes back to the Board.

On a local T.V. news broadcast this morning, one of the anchors referred to whether they would allow even "twenty-two millimeter guns to be carried!  :o ::) First of all, I'd like to see a 22 mm handgun that would fit in a concealment holster. (IIRC, the MiG15 carried a pair of 23 mm and one 37mm cannon!)  I think she was referring to .22 caliber rimfires.  ::)

Would it be SASS-legal with BP cartridges, and if you put an electric motor to drive it, with the power coming from galvanic cells (that's "batteries" to the modern types)? Then, all you need is to get the Wright brothers to make their aeroplane big enough to haul the assembly into the air!  :o ::) ;)

"Gat" Howard, Gatling's factory rep, was attached to General Middleton's command during our 1885 Rebellion. There were two guns in the battery at Batoche. Only casualties were some catholic nuns whose nunnery got shot up.

At first the Metis were intimidated by the sheer volume of fire, but quickly learned to stay away from and under the beaten zone.
Custer was right to leave them behind at his little debacle. They were only effective against massed ranks of attacking infantry or cavalry.
