Are snap around belt slides leagal for CAS? Instead of a sewn seam at the bottom they are closed with snaps. Here is a picture of one.

I don't think there is any ruling against it. You should be able to hide the snaps on the back if needed. I used to have my rig that way until I decided to go for the historical aspect of my outfit. Most of the rigs used for SASS aren't historically correct but perfectly acceptable. A quick call to SASS HQ would net you an answer on that.

Here's a picture of the slide I used way back when. Complete with snaps and speedy rivets. ;D

What Will said, I have a few of the snap on cartridge carriers, just like the one Will posted, they work great, and are SASS legal, at least they were.

Thanks for the replies. I took Wills advice (not sure why i didn't think of it on my own). I called SASS HQ and talked to Hip Shot. He said snaps are perfectly legal as they were invented prior to the 20th century. In doing a quick little research I found that snaps were first patended by Heirbert bauer in 1885.

It is not legal for NCOWS shooting. Not because of the snaps but belt slides apparently are not 19th century.

Yes, these are legal in the SASS format.  Snap on slides are very popular for many styles of accessories, from cartridge/shot shell slides, badge holders, watch pockets, WB mag pouches,  etc etc.  The simpler  and cheaper items are actually bread and butter products for on site sales at many clubs.  Most of the guys who will not have several hundred dollars in their pocket for an entire rig just might cough up his Burger King lunch money for a handy small leather project and just perhaps it will remind that person of you the next time a big purchase is necessary.
