I love the 44/40 warthog loads out of my Pietta Colt clones and 1873, but the Piettas chop upmy big hands and after going fast (well, fast for me) for a few days at a weekend shoot, I have bits of bark off all over my fingers. I must try the 45 Colt NMVs, they seem to have a bit more clearance around the trigger guard. I do love the Colt platform though and my Piettas are finely tuned and work like a Swiss watch! They just take pieces out of me! LOL!

The 44/40 is a cartridge that is a challenge at times and is poo-poo'ed by most folk, but it is one cartridge with a proud heritage and it gets under your skin. I kinda like it!
All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!

Cemetery - your choice how you reload.  Remember, there will be an extra step.  Take a vote on the firing line if folks can identify any difference in the boom shooting reloads that have compressed additional powder.  My vote will be - Nope, no sonic booms! ;D

I don't know JB.....one time, I was using my Old Army's filled to the rim with BOOM, and when I pulled the trigger, sure the revolver jumped in my hand, and recoil was tough, but man, the concussion was something.  Felt like I was at a 4th of July fireworks display, and everybody said the same thing.  Added bonus was that as soon as I started pulling the trigger, car alarms started going off!!  Related to me?  The world may never know.......... 8)
God forgives, I don't........

I have and use a compression die for my "44WCF rifle loads" and then only those that I'm using for 200 or more yards shooting wìth various cases and powder loads.
There is no need to do so with standard SASS loads. I load 33-34 grains of KIK 2F in my SASS match rounds for both the USFA revolvers and my Uberti Texas Brush Popper 73. When I come to the line all extra shooters leave the area including at times the RO.
We have several enclosed shooting positions which are only open to the front and the smoke and concussion of the rounds are pretty stiff. I love it and would never shoot any other way. It is after all is said and done, the real way it was done in the time period we love to go back to and have fun. Take Care Fairshake
