Jubel ... the answer is found ...

Thirty grains and notice that Frankford dated the boxes by Month/Year.  If ya have a free $750, the box of bullets can be yours!

PS:  This is my load ... down from 35 grains
Is that 30 grs of FFg or FFFG, by weight or volume? Inquiry minds need to know.   ;)

Slim, I don't have any idea which powder it is.  If you have that burning need to know, go to a cartridge collector website and post up the question.

Let us all know the answer.

John Boy, what is the case length on those 30 grain loads?  Frankford Arsenal went to the 1.1" case , but kept the "Colt" nomenclature.

I have literature that shows the 30 grain load under the Milspec 250 bullet in the 1.1" (Schofield) Case.  The 1.29" (Colt) case was shown with 35-38 grains.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

Sgt ... don't have a clue. I found the box of shells doing  search.  As for the specifics of the loads ... no idea.

Neat box though!  Just may have to make some

Still wondering about big-lube boolits for 38spl...

I am concerned about the OAL if I seat at the crimp grove...anyone know for sure what the OAL will be from a 38spl case? Would I need to step down to a 38long colt in order to seat in a Cimarron Open Top?

Mason Stillwell

I just seat my big lube boolit tm deeper in the case  and crimp over the ojive(spelling?)

Same overall length as a 38 125

Dakota,

I shoot Snakebites in my 38 Special Open Top, seated right at the crimp groove, with no problem. Never checked OAL but they are a good bit longer than most 38 loads.

How do Snakebites, seated at the crimp groove function through a 38 Special only, lever gun , like the '66 Yellowboys in 38 spec.?
I know this isn't a problem in .357 chambered guns, but I never tried to run one through a 38 only rifle.

Howdy 44 Caliber Kid,

I  thought you were in my data base.  No luck.  If you send me yer snail mail address, I'll send ya some lube/sized Snakebites to try out.  I'm thinkn' you may have to crimp them on the ogive instead of the crimp groove.  I have the molds in stock now for immediate delivery.

I certainly should be in your data base, perhaps under my real name, Clint Francisco.  I already bought a Snakebite mold from you.  I shoot 'em in a 357 Beretta Stampede and they work fine on top of as much 3f as I can possibly sqeeze in.  I was thinking of doing another article on the Snakebite specifically and just wanted to know if they cycled through 38 Special rifles crimped at the groove.  Hopefully, someone on here is shooting them that way.
I also have a Mav-Dutchman mold that works spendidly out of a '66 Yellowboy 44-40.  I'm currently working up a comparo with other cast bullets like Lyman and Lee.  I'll post results here when I have them .

Thanks Kid,

This means you probably got my Big Lube Bullitin.  I did find you on the spread sheet.

I'd be priviliged to publish your article in the next issue of BLB with your permission.
