I think it's time to give gun control a chance. Let's take some cities and make it hard to impossible for a citizen to get a gun for any reason. How about Washington DC, New York City, Chicago, Detroit and Los Angeles. We can give'm a number of years and see how it works out.

Would not work ... they would just blame the towns without gun control for supplying the guns.

not that it might have made a difference, what with the Armor he had...

But still, I'd like to think one Ram among the sheep, might have stopped this SOB with head shot.

It has already been done for a few decades now if you think about it. Notice that the crime rates are highest in those cities also so it doesn't work as far as I'm concerned. Besides even if all guns where banned man has committed crimes against his fellow man since the beginning of time. A strong law abiding population willing to defend themselves is the strongest deterrent there is in my opinion.

The movie theater had a no gun policy.  It was a gun free zone. So the only one that had guns was the criminal.

This was one super-sick, super-villiain, individual. He was, from all indications, a genius or nearly so. Had he not been able to purchase guns and ammo, with his apparent knowledge of chemistry, explosives, incendiaries, etc., he could well have cooked up something even more sinister...like a bomb that would have made the death toll far worse, just as terrorist bombers have done in various places, including the attacks in Iraq, Bulgaria, and elsewhere!

He had his apartment so booby-trapped that it took until late yesterday for the police to clear it. Had a cop kick in the door, we would have had more casualties! Interestingly, this devil made no attempt to confront the officer who arrested him outside the theater after the massacre!

What if there had been one or more CCW's inside the theater?  One could hope that they might have been able to stop him. The problem is, that given the total armor he was wearing, and the probable caliber of the arms carried by CCW's being pistol rounds, probably nothing short of a shot to the face, through the gas mask would have reached him, and who knows if such a shot could have been made with the gunman laying out heavy fire?    There might have been panicked customers jumping into the counter-fire shooter's line of fire, with equally tragic results.

Maybe a partial answer would be to make the purchase of the armor subject to a background check and evidence of a job-related requirement. (That might include someone who is a jeweler's messenger, etc., just no anybody).  Again, that might only induce a wouldbe purp to switch to an alternate means of attack, such as a satchel charge. Certainly, more gun laws aren't the answer...as Gov. of Colorado John Hickenlooper has already said.

I believe that if any one person had been carrying a gun, Holmes would have retreated. He knew this theater was a Gun Free Zone. Most of these guys are not heroes, they count on helpless victims. Ever heard of a mass murder at a Cowboy Shoot?
My opinion on Gun Free Zones:
'Gun Free Zones are shooting galleries for mass murderers built by Liberals'.

Look what happened in Norway, with some of the toughest gun laws on the books a muslim not only managed to get a gun and ammo but then killed 60 people. He also knew that his victims would be totally helpless before him.

Agh! Washington DC and Chicago have been that way for years and those have some of the highest crime rates. Like you say it usually happens behind those gun free zone signs.

You hear the gun-control types talking about how 'this isn't the old west where everybody carries a gun,' they are quite correct. Contrary to popular belief and Hollyweird, the crime rate was a heck of a lot lower back then than now. Wonder why??

He was not a muslim, he was a christian , Norwegian.
And we have more guns pr person than most countrys in the world, but mostly hunting guns, and no full auto guns.
We have to get permission to by every gun from the police,  its time consuming, but ok.
As long as you are not convicted for drugs or violence , you can have guns, if you need them for huntig / sports.

Tom Greenhorn, I stand corrected on 2 counts. I don't agree that he was actually a Christian. He might have belonged to a church or claimed to be but didn't meet the standard.

Its hard to describe, but hes crazy, and if he didnt have guns ,he would have found an other way to kill...

And Holmes isn't a head case?  Whether his actions at his initial court appearance are real or an act intended to feign insanity, will have to be determined in "due process", but so far as has been released to the media, he obtained all his guns quite legally, having apparently passed by the CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) and the NCIS (FBI), because he had no criminal record (outside of a traffic ticket).  Were there warning signs he was about to (allegedly) go rogue? There are conflicting reports, but several similar attacks were committed by invididuals who left warning signs where they could be found, but were ignored by people who read/heard them.  The danger there, however, is that someone with an agenda or a grudge against a gun owner could turn them in, much like German and Soviet children sometimes turned their parents in for "disloyalty, threats against the state", etc.
