Do you know if they drop-tube the Black powder into the cases?  Or is that not really necessary for a good load???

They are .428 at present .

Rowdy, almost everyone now is using the same barrels for the 44Mag and the 44-40 - so you might try a .430" sizing.  The old Winchester barrels are highly inconsistent, some measuring .425" and some .432"!

Good question , the next time I talk to Powder Inc. will find out . All I can say is he said the next batch of lead would be softer .

Vintage Hunting Ammo is back on the drawing board .

From the 1895 Winchester catalogue, they say the 44 WCF bullets were pure lead.

Maybe you are doing this already, but for testing different loads and cartridges, may I suggest five-shot groups at 100 yards with at least two targets shot per load. I guess I'm a bit of an 'accountant' when it comes to load testing, but I'm busting with curiosity as to what these groups actually look like. :P I find that 100 yard testing really starts to separate the good loads from the poor. If possible, I would love to see photos of the 100 yard targets labeled for the different loads you are testing so I can visually compare the performance of the different cartridges.

Looks like the Vintage ammo will be part of the 2013 line of ammo . Hope to take a Doe with it in a few days .

Good luck with the hunt. I'm starting my hunt on Monday.
