Confirmed damage in my 32WCF barrel. While I'm changing barrels I was considering the possibility of changing to 44/40. Obviously a new barrel and bolt. Question is whether or not a larger cailber bolt will fit in a reciever made for the smaller calibers? I noticed that the entrance to the mag tube in the reciever did not accept a 44/40 and would need to be enlarged. As I'm a machinist by trade I'd be doing the gunsmithing. It's just a question of how much work is needed and is it practical. My guess is its not, but I thought I'd ask anyway  ;D

Uberti only makes one size receiver and mag tube, that is what causes some problems with going to smaller calibers.  To change to .44-40 you need a new barrel, new carrier and new bolt and enlarge the mag tube entrance in the receiver.  Probably cheaper to sell what you have and buy one that is already in .44-40.  Especially right now as Uberti parts are hard to come by.

I did not see a brand of rifle. If your talking about a 92 Winchester it is not possible. The side walls on the frame have a different thickness. You are limited to 25-20,32-20, 218 Bee, 256 Win mag, 38/357 and maybe a few others.

Its an Uberti 1873 Winchester rifle. I've ordered the bolt and carrier, just waiting for the barrel and I'll swop over.

Is the magazine the right size? The rest should work fine.
