A Spencer Repeating Rifle was found behind a trunk in the house I grew up in on the family homestead farm.  It is imprinted with Spencer Repeating Rifle Co. Boston Mass. Pat'd March 6, 1860.  The serial number is 8680.  Can anyone help with records from this company as to who this gun was issued to in the Civil War?  I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thank you in advance.

Just a "guestimate" but your Spencer Rifle serial # 8680 may have been issued to a member of Company G 8th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry.
