I've been very favorably impressed with my last purchase of Schuetzen black powder.  Swiss is. . . .  Swiss.  It's good, it's expensive and I use it only in very specific loading.  Right now, that's my 45-70 long range ammo.

And yes, JB, I did see an increase in velocity from my latest batch of Schuetzen over the previous, pre 2009, issue batch.

QuoteI loaded up 100 rounds of 44 colt with FFFg Kik over big Lube bullets. I'll let you know how they work for me
Hopalong, I for one would really like to know the velocity of your rounds.  Here's the sieve ratios for the 2010 shipment of KIK FFFg.  Note the percentages of the 40 - 50 - 60 and 80 mesh granulation's.  The FFFg KIK is mixed HOT.  In the neighborhood of FFFFg (flash pan powder) and Swiss Null B

KIK FFFG (Lot 3910)
30 Mesh – 45.04% Hold
40 Mesh – 34.32% Hold
50 Mesh – 16.03% Hold
60 Mesh – 01.53% Hold
70 Mesh – Unknown - don't have this screen
80 Mesh – 3.05% Hold
80 Mesh – 0.01% Pass

I like Goex cause it's made right here in the good ol' US of A!! It's more expensive but it's good stuff. I've used KIK quite a bit but I do prefer Goex. ;)

Rye, before Hodgdon purchased Goex it was my #1 powder of choice for many reasons. The first being it is a American made powder and is located in my home state. The powder choice was nice with the different powders being available, from the standard every day Goex to the top of the line Express and Cartridge blends. These powders were all discontinued and only the standard blend left.
When you are shooting for the best accuracy and the least amount of fouling, many of the other powders out perform it.
I still buy and use the standard Goex for limited use as I hope that they will rise to the occasion and produce a top powder again that is able to perform with the others when tested.
I also hope that after they recover from the tragic explosion that took place that Hodgdon will come out with the new blends that they promised us when they stopped production on the other powders. It would make me proud if this would take place. Later Fairshake

:o Don't hold your breath David. I have my doubts we'll see anything other than floor sweepings from the military contracts out of Goex for a long time to come.

KIK was first imported by Goex. Thankfully Western was in a position to buy up the production that Goex wouldn't take after the Hogdon take over...
Interesting observation at last weekends Midwest Championship bpcr match. A fella I shoot with regularly and a former Swiss junky was shooting KIK and doing rather well, accuracy was good to 1000 yds and little to no fouling problems. But he had over done the practice rounds and ran out of the KIK loads.. So in the middle of the buffalo match he had to revert back to his old Swiss standby loads. Fouled out inside a 6 shot relay.... Never did get the thing to running like it should by the end of the match... I'm not sure but I'll just about bet if he had any Swiss left at home, it's in the flower garden now, because up to the Swiss debaucle he was in a good position in the scoped class.

Hey Fairshake, I never noticed any more or less fouling with any of the brands. Maybe it's just me! ::) Rye

Is anyone using this brand to reload .45LC and Schofield cartridges? I always just used Goex, but my supplier dried up. Can someone suggest a good supplier and price?

I just bought 2 pound cans of Goex at Cabelas this week...over $30 a 1 pound can!
I have recently bought 2 nice BP revolvers and this is the first time I have used BP in over 10 years...I was stunned by the price of Goex!

My total bill was over $70!

If there is a better substitute, please let me know- I used Goex ten years ago, and I thought it was reasonable then, even cheap to shoot...I guess that's a thing of the past.

dongun, you got ripped big time on that powder.
You could of gotten 10lbs delivered to your door for 179$ from PowderInc.

Powder Inc. is I think still 14.50 a pound for Goex. Buy a case and that is the cost per pound delivered to your door.
