Hi, glad to be here! I have, new to me, Chaparral 1876 45-60. I bought it used and was told that it shot very accurate. The man that owned it was on hard times and he needed money, lucky for me, but he was sad to see it go. Now I am planning a hunt this Oct. to shoot this huge Fallow deer out a ranch in East Tx. I plan on using my new 1876 45-60 with open sights and need to practice. I was looking at a starting load that I read somewhere that was(if memory serves) 26 gr of 4198 and 300 gr cast bullet. Now I am not sure if these bullets are good for hunting or more target shooting... Im sure the penetration is there but not sure on the performance of the bullet once it hits... My shot should be under 100yrds.. now I would like to either find or get info on a 300gr cast bullet with a hollowpoint or data that will help me load some Hornady FTX bullets that I have... they are 325gr and .458 used in loads for the 45-70... so the bullet should work, just not sure of how many grains of 4198 to use... I would rather load for the Hornady leverEvolution bullet, but if it will not work, I will go to the cast 300 gr bullet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! here are some pics to get the heart pumping...! thanks in advance.

There are alot of great folks on here, you'll like the site. Check out the sticky at the top with the loads for the 45-60, Silver rings has worked up some great loads. Ive recently been testing my Uberti in same caliber with 350 gr lazercasts and Varget.
