The Alamo 2004 movie

If i remember right Billy Bob Thortons rifle was a black color in the movie,did they just do that for effects or did they really paint thier rifle back then a different color at times,what would thay have used as paint or whatever.I have a friend that owns an antique store and she has a kentucky rifle in there,it is a newer replica made in Spain,i can get it pretty cheap and she will let me pay it off.I have one but don't want to shoot that one becuase a good friend that passed carved a scene on it.I figgered i would get this and color it like the one BBT had in the movie,put some tacks on it and such.Just wondering..I'll hang it in my room for display when not shootin it.

There was an article recently in, I think, Muzzleloader Magazine, about painting rifles blue in the 18th century. I don't recall the details, but I remember there was some controversy about it. I'm going to be on the road for a while, but I'll look it up when I get back. Of course, that has nothing to do with Hollywood's take on history. Just an interesting little tidbit of information.

Major2,  my friend Danny Boyd was in that one as well.  You m ay not remember him, though, as there were quite a few actors in that one.  It's actually quite a good film!  I have seen it a number of times at the Alamo IMAX theater. 

Was going to go to the casting call for the '04 Alamo movie, but had a previous engagement for a reenactment at the Egypt Plantation here in Texas.  Too bad!  All my buddies who showed up got parts!

APOF is a feature length IMAX film,  it runs several times daily at the purpose built River Center IMAX just behind the Minger Hotel
across Crockett Street from the Alamo.
It's been running there since the premier in 1988...it has been shown in several edited running times, currently I believe it's shown in it shortest version... cutting major scenes.  

There has been a movement to have the Full length version available on DVD, but it not as yet,  the Sound Track is on CD however.

I was the Production Designer on the film , and as the Designer, Keith Merrill the Director felt I should play Green B. Jameson
the fellow charged to fortify the Alamo.
My avatar is one of my cameo's, it is the final moments of Green Jameson as they overran the Alamo.

If you read the narrative, there were also red and spotted guns. If you look at the Bumford gun on the same site, you'll see some were painted with vines and flowers. We natives are a pimpy lot.....

Painted guns...I love it when I see something at appears to be real farby (per our modern expectations) but is really spot-on period correct.

Thought I would mention, these days there are some Alamo movies to rent for online viewing at Amazon. Including one made in 1915 (an old B&W silent film called Birth of Texas) (it's a hoot)!
