It will be a Uberti 76
« on: April 09, 2012, 01:11:33 PM »
Made up my mind : it shall be a Uberti 76.

Maybe in 40-60. Where to get brass ?
Rear Sight ? Marbles, which one fits ?
Bullets Lyman mould 2660168 OK ?
Bullets Lymann mould 2660169 OK ?

Thanks for your insights.

I have a 45-60. If I had to do it over again I'd go with a 50-95. If you're going to shoot a bullet with a rainbow trajectory it might as well be a big one! ;D

Ditto.  If you are going to carry a big heavy gun it ought to shoot a big heavy bullet (and make a lot of smoke).

Welcome Slainte!  The 40-60 has always been a bit of a mystery in terms of "Why" Winchester offered such a light chambeing for a large heavy rifle like the 1876.  As a cartridge, the 40-60 offers not a great deal more than the 44-40, in both accuracy and down range performance.  Kind of the "red headed step child" of the 76 family of cartridges! ;)  My personal favorite is the 45-60, but the 45-75 is also a fine choice.  Whatever you choose, enjoy your 76.  They are all great! :)

Now that I finally (seems like a year!) got my 1876 Italian 1876 lever gun in 50-95, it just seems so much easier to go to sleep at night........guns will do that to ya you know.  ;D  I must admit I ponderd over what caliber to have the chambering in but went with the big bore......glad I did do so too.

It's a long long way looking down that barrel Gents! I must go to the doctor and get me some new looking glasses, maybe then I can hit something with this rifle besides a 55 gal barrel at 100yds. ::)   ;)
