I've always wanted a replica 1873 in 44-40 but was side tracked when I found a real deal on a used like new 1866 uberti a while back and spent some of my gun funds on that.

The fund that I often contribute too is slowing rising and getting close to the price of a new 73.

I've been looking at the ones on Taylor's website and will probably go that way.

Are there's as good in quality as cimarron and others?

Thanks

Jack

aside from barrel markings , both Taylors & Cimarron are Uberti's  ( tho...Taylor's is home for the Cody tuned guns )
There might be slight difference, in wood grain or color but that is not the importer, it's the luck of the draw and the nature of wood.

Stoeger ( Uberti USA ) also has them.....and I think Navy Arms still does.
another soarce is Ultona ( a Dealer mostly Cimarron ) and Dixie Gun works.
There a few other soarces but thses are the main ones.

Now there is/was another 73 imported called the Chaparral it is not a Uberti
These have been spotty, some were good, many were with issues.
The first Importer, Charter Arms , dropped them unceremoniously
I don't believe they are still in production. Though I've see some offered at low prices.
Some owners swear by their's,  other owners swear AT them !

when planets align...do the deal !

Stick to the Uberti . Unfortunately the Chappies have a bad reputation . The quality control sucked . Some people got good guns and others had PROBLEMS .

I stumbled into a super deal on a Cimarron '73 Rifle, a .45 Colt. It had been slicked up but doesn't have a short stroke. I use it for hunting, CAS and home defense. It is one great rifle. BTW, make sure it comes with the Buckhorn Rear Sight. I can tell you that it's as fast a gun as you could ever hope for, then some. Yeah, I love mine.
The rifle was priced at $1300, the seller was having a mid-life crisis and needed money for a motorcycle. I talked him down to $600, walk out, with a life time warranty from the shop where the seller worked.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

I have a Codymatic '73 Winchester ...

The rifle started out as a standard Uberti-from-Taylors and was customized by Cody Conagher ...he added his short stroke kit, aluminum carriers and made the gun fire like greased lightning ...

But what I really like about it was that it was all done under Cody's gurarantee ... also, I only paid the FFL fees once ... when it was sent to me ....

I don't understand why people buy a rifle, buy short kits, and then spend the next six months racking up FFL fees as the rifle is sent to and from a repair shop .... and with no over all guarantee ...

My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

My vote is for the '73 Codymatic. Not just because I own and shoot one, but because they appear to be incredibly new user friendly. I have seen several new shooters pick one up and an interestsing phenomenon occurs: the first five shots are spotty and slow while the second five shots are much faster as the shooter realizes that they can work this gun faster without disturbing the sight picture. Don Jones, AKA Cody Conagher is excellent to work with and I really enjoyed my dealings with him. I had the opportunity to handle an Evil Roy Brush Popper and I was not as pleased with the ease of its action as I was with the Cody. YMMV.

Another vote for Cody. He lives a little up the road from Taylor's.

Thanks for all the help this terrible disease.

Getting close now, looking at Taylor's model 200.

Gone as far as putting a photo of it up as my wall paper.

I think if we could just quit looking at these things and staying away form people that use them, we might be able to quiet.

Nah   ;D

IRON JACK

again thanks for all the info.

I ordered the Taylor 1873 straight grip, 24.25 barrel, 44/40 Model 200

Should be here next week.
