Ok got to spend the day at the range.  Worked a lot with my new CAS guns, my Rossi 92 and my Cimarron Thunderer.  Very impressed with my Thunderer, much slicker and smoother than my new Vaquero.  But I have decided I hate my Rossi's sights. It is a new one that I bought in December and it was shooting high and to the left.  Adjusted the sights and now it shoots dead on left to right, but still shoots about 6" high at 50 yards.  I have the rear sight as low as it can go. I have looked at Stevez Guns site for sights.  Which sights would you folks recommend?  ???

Check with Marbles, they used to make a Rossi rear sight.  You can file down the rear sight, and then deepen the notch.  I did that on a 44-40 Rossi about 18 years ago...

I have a Browning BLR92 in .44 mag and an original '92 in .44-40.  Both are VERY sensitive to load level.  The hotter the load, the lower it shoots.  Drop the load, and up-she-goes!

Pick the load you want to work with and sight it in for that. 8)

The factory sights on my Rossi 92 shot about 4" high at 20 yards, with the rear sight as low as it would go.  I replaced them with a Marble semi-buckhorn & taller front sight - problem resolved.  The Marble sight picture is a LOT better than the factory sight as well.

Midway USA sells the "short" Marble rear sight that you need to clear the receiver.  The "long" sight works, but leaves very little space for the elevation adjustment ramp.  Go with the 1-7/8".

This is the front sight I used

I figured since the rifle shot low, a taller front blade would help sight in.  It did.  As it worked out, I used the adjustable insert (be sure to turn it around so the white diamond is hidden) rather than the stepped ramp for elevation.

The semi-buckhorn rear sight helped a lot with target acquisition.  Nice thing about the Marble sights, it doesn't cost much to try the different styles (flat, semi- or full buckhorn).  The rifle shoots to point of aim at 20 yards now.

I bought the rifle in late May last year, just after I got started in CAS.  At the time, I had not heard of Steve's Gunz or Nate Kiowa Jones.  I replaced the sights 2 weeks after I got it.  I found what I thought would work (anything would have been better than the factory set of sights) & ordered them from Midway USA, who had them in stock.  Drifted out the factory sights, drifted in the new set, used a laser boresighter, lined em up & went shootin!

Hmmm started to order and thought..I have the octagon barrel..is yours round or octagon...and I wonder if it matters?

HolliferADollar

Mine is the 24" octagonal barrel.  Both of those will work just fine on your octagonal barrel.  The dovetail is the right size for the Marble sights.
