This ain't exactly GAF-related.  But it is a military small arms question for you.  Many of you all are subject matter experts.

Today was a "slow day" on our ramp at Kandahar.  So we were sorting M4/16 magazines for inventory and redeployment.
I ran across a 30-round mag that had a fixed metal follower and a bearinged roller coming up through it just forward of center.
There is decal on the follower that has 66-170-0. The mag has no feed lips. The base plate has the common "Adventure Line" stamping on it.

I will run the decal no on Fed Log tomorrow to find out what I can.

Do you reckon it is a single shot mag for rifle training or match use?

EDIT---I ran the numbers.  No dice.
Sorry, but the image is blurry.

My guess would be a target adaptation, but it begs the question as to how it got there!  Not exactly something that's overly useful in combat!  By the way, I tried a Google search for such a thing, and struck out.  Maybe someone else will have more luck.

I sent this to a Small Arms Instructor buddy of mine to see if he had seen something like this before.

Here is what my buddy had to say.

Mornin Joe,

I have heard of these but never seen one......sometimes "Joe" has a better idea and takes his own mags or other gear into the combat zone. Sometimes "joe" is smart about these things and the gear is good, other times not so much.

This looks like a mag someone brought from home..........I wonder how well it works?

Ah where would we be without good old Joe.  I know that the UCMJ wouldn't be nearly as fun without him....
