Heheh, I wish that was the case but even though I retired on Dec 31st I'm as busy as I was with my consulting so I just don't get to shoot that much.....In another year of two I hope that changes. :)

First thing is for Wagon Box Willy, You may store many, many, many pounds of BP without the least bit of a problem unless you are a heavy smoker and keep it by your ashtrays.
The next thing is about the price of Goex and it being compared with the foreign brands.
Since Hodgdon purchased Goex they have increased the prices by 21% and discontinued several of the popular powders.
I told my friend who is the Goex distributor that I was very upset when I heard of the purchase by Hodgdon. I felt then and still do that it was purchased for the huge amount of Government contracts that Goex has.
Goex makes very little money off of the sporting powders but made them for all the true black powder sportsman who are very devoted to the company.
Hodgdon powder company has been in direct competition with Goex for years with the making of the sub powders. These powders have always been sold for several dollars more per pound than the real powder sold by Goex. Why would they want to leave the prices as they were which is in direct competition or bring them in line with the products made by them.
Then discontinue the top of the line powders so that shooters would have to look else where.
Several top shooters used both the Goex Cartridge and Goex Express to compete on the National level.
Next thing is the comparison of residue. If you take the time which I have to observe Goex grains under the microscope, you will see that they are much larger in size than any of the foreign made powders which bear the same printed size.
The Swiss 2F along with Schutzen, KIK are all the same size as the 3F Goex.
Any BP shooter will tell you that the smaller grain size will burn cleaner and with less residue.
Black powder burns from the outer surface area in and the larger the grain the longer the burn.
The reason that you can't put 68 grains of Goex 2F in a case but the Swiss fits is because of this.
I can only think that it may be because of our different systems of measurement, that is only a guess on my part.
So when you shoot one against the other you have to be fair and compare the Goex 3F to the others in 2F.
Also the only Goex left is the standard grade and the others are more of a premium grade.
Look at how the grains of Goex Express look when compared to the Swiss and you will see a likeness. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying as I believe the Swiss to be the best powder produced but the price makes it hard for almost every shooter to pass on.
I have had great results with the current lot of KIK that Powder Inc. is selling as have many other shooters. It maybe purchased in case price for about $10.50 a pound before the other charges are thrown in.

We are relieved of these difficult decisions here in Australia. I have never seen more than one brand available at the same time. Years go it was always Goex, the some armoury whose name I can't remember, currently Wano is all thats around. Easy peasy Grrrrrrrr!
All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!

Fairshake,
I'm not worried about it igniting, just that the fire department would have to watch my house burn if my house ever caught fire....just paranoid I guess :)

The Swiss is amazingly clean in the 44wcf .

The label on my jugs of Graf say that it's imported by the Shuetzen folks and made by Wano Schwarzpulver. I use both GOEX and the Graf. I mainly use the GOEX for my shotgun as I get better groups and more power with the Graf in my .45 Colt. For CAS I use less powder and a filler for velocities like the old Cavalry load but for full power I use a 24 inch drop tube and cand get 900+ fps from my five and a half inch Colt SAA clones. Anywhere between around 25 gr plus filler to a full drop tubed and compressed load, as long as I take reasonable care with my loading and am picky about my bullet casting the groups from the Graf are visibly tighter.

I know folks like to say that tight groups don't matter in CAS but I've never felt the need to produce inaccurate ammo.

QuoteSchuetzen for all my BP, burns much cleaner than Goex
There is a reason ... the charcoal
Goex uses yellow maple wood, aka Swamp Maple
Schuetzen uses Alder wood, not Alder Buckthorn though
Alder wood has more creosote than maple

Added benefit using Schuetzen:  In 2009, Wano reformulated the processing of Schuetzen which produces an 8 - 10% increase in velocity
