I got my first dutch oven! I have been wanting a lodge 12" 8 qt deep oven to start with but they were a bit pricey and i kept wasting money on non-essential things like gas, food, daughter's school tuition ect. Lodge's website had this oven for $99.99. The cheapest I found was on Amazon for $79.99. Today I was in Sports Authority, a sporting goods chain store. I was purusing the camping asile when I saw the box with the Lodge logo. It was a dutch oven! The only one on the shelf!  My pulse raced, my eyes darted over the box-left, right, up, down without focusing. I saw that it was a 12" but but how deep? Finally I focused and confirmed it was an 8 qt. just what I was looking for. I had never seen one in any stores. I saw other sizes but not a 12". Now for the price. I scanned the front of the box and found it. $59.99! I thought there had to be a mistake and searched for other markings I may have missed. There were none. I snapped it up and went straight to the checkout for brief transaction and I was carrying my brand new oven out to my truck. I could'nt wait to get it home and open it up. The 12" is the perfect size. It had a factory baked finish and the literiture said it was seasoned and ready to go but I think I will give it a seasoning before using it. I have a small home blacksmith shop and will bang out a lid lifter for it. I have plans for a roast this weekend. I'll let yall know how it goes. My next procurement is a 12" 6 qt for baking.
My monikor comes from my family's former ranch Santa Cruz Farms located outside Eloy, Arizona. The Santa Cruz river runs through the land.
