Looking for Conical Bullet for My Pietta NMA

Does anyone know of a conical bullet that will fit in the loading window of a Pietta Remington NMA revolver? I have tried the Buffalo Bullets conical and it shoots great but the cylinder has to be loaded off the frame. I am looking for a conical bullet that I can load with the cylinder in the revolver. Or do I have to make modifications to the revolvers? I am looking for either ready made bullets or a bullet mold that will work.

The LEE 200gr conical bullet has always fit my Remingtons (Uberti, ASM or Pietta. 30grs powder is about all you can get under it but it is a nice "thumper".

Take a look at Dick Dastardly's little 160 grain Pecos Pete(I think) bullet. It carries more than enough lube for black powder and is very accurate. I use it in a pair of Pietta '1858's and a pair of Ruger Old Armies with great results.

Depending on how much shooting you do, each mold meantioned will be fine. The DD PP(?) mold is a 6 cavity and would crank out tons of bullets. Not sure on the cost $80-$90(?). The accuratemolds bullet looks a lot like the DD mold, don't know cost, depends on the # of cavities. Then there is the LEE 200gr conical that is a double cavity mold and very inexpensive uncluding the handles as are their roundball molds. My LEE DC .454RB mold has made several thousand balls and is still functional. I'm partial to the LEE molds mainly because I am a cheapskate but the DD mold would do everything you want also.

What diameter is your bore and cylinders?

I must have 6 different molds for 45 colt/acp/etc. What I've finally settled on as an all purpose bullet is DD's-ROA FLAT Big Lube®LLC 210 grain. Mine cast out about 455. It has 3 rebated bases, for a slightly different cylinders/ barrels. For my Ruger old army, I size it to 454 and load either with the cylinder left in the pistol or using the "tower of power". For my vaqueros and my uberti 73 rifle, I size down to .452. I pretty much use SPG lube both for Black, pyrodex, and modern (tight group, trail boss).
I've even used it in my 45acp with a lot of luck.

Curious, why do you want a conical? They are no more accurate than a round ball and are harder to load.

Pards, I appreciate your advice. My particulate pistols shot the conical bullets really well and it seem very convenient to load without having to use wool felt wad to carry lubricate down the bore. My Piettas have a .448 throats and .450 bore.

"dual rebate base"...........what dimensions are we talking here?
I assume by rebate you mean smaller than the driving band area, which is what diameter?

If you visit DD's website at BigLube.com he has schematic drawings that give the dimensions on all the bullets for which he has molds.

Hoof: the driving band is whatever you size it at. My EPP-UG mould drops bullets at .456, so I can do anything smaller than that.

Slim you and Hellgate are very kind to be "helping" me out

I am not as concerned about the driving band as the "heel".............(and you can't size the driving band larger than it casts...argh, Argh. ARGH).

I did follow Hellgate's advise but the drawings are only drawings on Dick's site and there are no dimensions listed for the bullet I was asking about.

Maybe it is a Secret? I dunno....thought I could steer (no not castrate) a customer his direction.

Take a gander at this. It's the working drawing for the DD-PUK FLAT. The bullet was renamed in favor of PUK who added the flat nose. It's the same as the DD-ROA-II.

You know I think I might be able to use this as a heel base bullet in a 44 Colt or Russian case, mew-ah-ah-HA.......

If you want some customer feedback on DD bullet PUK Flat. I use it and like it very much. My firearms are all Rugers. (Vaquero, ROA) bore dia # 452 and a uberti 73 in 45 colt. If I were limited to only one mold, it would be the only 45 mold I'd have. When I exhause all existing stocks of 45 bullets I've cast, I'm thinking of using this one as an all purpose. 45 colt rifle, pistol, schofield, ACP.

I'm getting lots of good feedback on this bullet. One thing that I hadn't paid much attention to, till it was mentioned a couple of times, is the ease that it drops from the mold. This is one very fast casting design. It's one of the few that I use two molds for because one mold takes too long to cool enough for a good sprue cut.

The relatively fragile driving bands lend themselves to easy lube/sizing to exact chamber sizes. Some Italian clones have chambers running as small as .447". This is one design that will size that far down without deforming, and give a nice snug interference chamber fit.

On the other end, it drops big enough that I can lube/size them to .458" for Plainsman events with my 45-70 Remington rolling block rifle.

The flat nose (Thank you PUK for that idea) allows for use in tube magazine rifles when loaded in Cowboy 45 Special, Schofield or 45 Colt brass. Naturally, they shoot great in like chambered pistols.

Now, there's an article coming out in the CC, as soon as I get the photo work done, about shooting the DD-PUK FLAT in 1911 45 ACP pistols. This bullet feeds flawlessly and shoots very accurately in them. For a real treat, try this rig with Black Powder. With all that lube it'll run forever before it needs cleaning.
