I thought that I had posted this topic before, and I might have, but I can't find it for the life of me. Oh well, things like this happen when you get old I guess. Anyway, I'd like to get some opinions on gun lubes.I've used a lot of them over the years and to tell you the truth, I can't much tell any difference between the $12.00 an ounce, special duty, made just for Colts, secret formula, tactical gun oil and plain old 3 in 1 all purpose oil or WD-40 for that matter. Is there a difference, is it significant enough to pay a lot extra for and what are those differences practically?

Avoid WD-40,it is not a lubricant it's a water displacer. It does a good for what it's designed for but evaporates and leaves a slightly gummy sticky residue and has no lubrication value.I've used RIG as a gun grease for years and Army Surplus LSA oil as gun oil.

If you're in a dusty or sandy environment you'll want to consider some type of dry lube.

I live in San Antonio the heart of the Texas Hill Country and we knowall too much about sand and dust. One of the reasons that I wanted to get some opinions on lube is that I would like to hear from some of you that have tried the spray on white lithiumg lubricant. I aslo would like to hear about either the silicon or teflon suspended in liquid that dries and leaves behind a deposit of either teflon or silicone. I understand that some of these interact poorly with regular oil lubes. Have any of you guys tried any of these?

Building completion guns, I've used every conceivable lube on the market.  Some folks swear by the strange concoctions a expensive stuff, but I haven't seen anything superior to basic oil (rem lube, etc.) or Break Free.  The only dry lube I like is "Boshield." YMMV

I've been using Break Free CLP and tetra grease for years now.

I semi slicked my EAA Bountyhunter and after giving it an Acetone bath to completely degrease it I put it allback together again with white litium grease. We'll see what happens.
