Custom Made Shirt

Last fall we attended a Civil War Reenactment outside of Milwaukee and I bought a shirt (picture 1) from a Suttler called "Hansen's Mercantile". The cost of this shirt was $25.00. In talking with the owner, she told me that Amish make these shirts for her. For $25.00 they will make a shirt using material furnished by the customer. I liked the fit and style so much that I ordered one (pictures 2 & 3). I figure with the shipping and material cost, this shirt cost me around $70.00. In my avatar I'm wearing a red "Saber River Shirt". I love that style but it is not offered any more by a reliable source. My custom shirt resembles it to a certain degree. I selected a heavy almost burlap style fabric for my shirt. The shirt weighs a ton and will last me forever. Also these shirts are not perfect. By that I mean they do not like a perfect "machine made Arrow shirt". IMHO They have the look of something made many years ago and that's the appearance I looked for.

They do have shirts in stock ranging from $30.00 to $45.00 depending on size. Lots of other interesting items also on their website. If you order a custom shirt, they require (4) yards of material. Here is a link to their website: www.hansens-mercantile.com

I bought a pattern for a 'square shirt', and I was lucky enough to have one of the seamstresses who does reenactment make it for me at approximately the same price ... only another person in the Old Sacramento reenactors handles fabric ... and sold me some watch plaid that was being discontinued for $10/yd!

Rowdy, I live near a mass of Amish...they even have a country store were you can buy furniture, seeds, produce,,heck, name it,,,,and they are the most wonderful cooks. The mizzis buys canned jellies and preserves, cheese, meats of various types from them,,and I LOVE when she returns from the Amish store. Their food reminds me of my momma's cooking.
