Well, I mixed a ring of toilet seal  wax, a "bar" of crisco, 1/2 of a piece of canning wax, and 4 good tablespoons of Murphy's Oil Soap...

Put everything but the oil in the oven at 350F until it was all melted, the added/stired in the oil soap.

I melted off the wax from 40 commercially cast 38-55 240gr bullets and then set them on end in a flat bottom pan.

I scooped in enough lube until the crimp grove at the top was covered.
Stuck it back in the oven for 15 min.

Took it out, put it in the sink 2" deep with cold water..bottom firmed up enough so the bullets didn't slide around.

put it in the deep freeze for 15min until it started to seperate from the sides of the pan.

Pushed the bullets out from the top and they are about as perfect as I could expect to do for a first time.

I have 100rds of freshly fire formed, primed, and neck expanded W-W 38-55 brass all ready to go...

I should have a test report this Sat. after my trip to the range...

Rifle is a Winchester Model 94 (1976 vintage 30-30) with a 26" full 26" heavy octogaonal barrel.
(Smith Enterprises full buckhorn rear sight...)

50yds and 100yds are in order for this weekend.

Wish me luck!!!

Dakota Widowmaker,
Are you the same person that posted on the BPCR email list with a subject of "New lube...time to test it at the range this weekend..."?

Also, what is a "bar" of crisco?

Yup...I got alot of info from both the yahoo group as well as cascity and sassnet.

Lots of good resources...folks on both lists/forums had asked, so, I thought I would share the info.

I quick "test" shows it to be not too soft, yet, alot "smoother" than commercial "wax" lubes.

Crisco can come in a 3pack of "bars". I just used one to do what I needed...softened up the wax and made it flow a bit more.
I think the oil soap also lends to ease of flow in/around lube groves.

Hope nobody minded I shared the info...

It sure looked like ya.  ;D

I didn't know Crisco came in that form.

This is the place to share info.  ;)

Thanks, pard.

Thanks, pard.

BTW, if this recipe works for you, don't pay attention to the naysayers.  ;)
