Hello,

I have a 3rd generation Colt SAA, and on the sides of the hammer there are several small black marks in the polished areas.  It almost looks like small spots of bluing.  Anybody ever see anything like this?  This SAA left the factory in 1997.  I am wondering if Colt's could polish the marks off?

'You' can polish them away with emery cloth and a flat surface.

Just remove the hammer and flatten out a strip of 'very' fine sandpaper onto a flat surface - and push the hammer flat in one direction - stopping when you've removed the offending spot.

Alternately - try using 'Simichrome' or 'Wenol' - both polishing pastes - and again, polish in one direction.

Have the hammer color case hardened by Doug Turnbull or Classic Guns - It looks great and you will never have black marks on the polished sides again.
