There's a V-shaped stamp used between the double lines. Any thoughts what was used to make that impression?

Dalton Masterson

Nice holster!
I think that V stamp is done with a veiner held on edge.

Meanea used this similar pattern on a lot of his holsters. I've looked at a couple in some private collections and it appears the v stamp was made just as Dalton said. Sometimes they are not very perfect at all and it's more obvious what was used. When I do one like this that's what I do, just use the edge of the stamp.

Check out the one on my web site.  It is nearly identical.  Go to www.oldwestreproductions.com and then go to "PHOTO GALLERY".  I bought this rig almost 20 years ago, from a guy in Boise, Idaho.  I have another one that is pictured on page 121 in the book "PACKING IRON".  I bought my first Meanea holster nearly 40 years ago for $3.00.  It too was for a 7 1/2" Colt, fancy tooled and buckskin lined.

In my 1898 C. S. Osborne & Co. catalog, this tool is listed as #370 and is shown with veiners.  In my 1908 McMillan catalog, the closest one they show is a veiner #26.  I have made a duplicate of this stamping tool for my Meanea reproductions.

That's certainly a great example on page 121. Thanks for the info, Buck.
