this holster is based on the brazos jack pattern pack from hidecrafter.
the pattern pack called for 2 pieces on the holster main body.
the front of holster and back of holster 2 seperate pieces.
I decided that i wanted the holster to be one piece (easier to sew)
and then decided to line the holster.

anyways the holster is finally done.

That looks good, pard. I like the single piece holster. It looks like it would be a comfortable rig. Nice touch with the initial strip across basket weave at a slight angle to it.

all kidding aside, my budy is a south paw that hasen't figured out how to shoot with his right hand.
I on the other hand am a south paw but my right eye is dominent one, therefore i shoot right handed.
had lots of fun with that in basic training. the drill sgts did not think it was funny though.... ;D ;D ;D

That rig looked really good, it got me interested in the pattern.  So I downloaded the pdf file for the catalog and called in an order.  Today I was all atwitter, there was the envelope in the mailbox.  Zipped it open, and there was a pattern for saddlebags.  Hmmmm, it seems like there is a slight misprint in the catalog.  They told me keep the saddlebag pattern and they'll be sending me the right one.  So if you order it, make sure everyone is on the same page.

I want to see if I can work the pattern into the suspender I have to wear to hold everything up, since my right shoulder goes crazy if I put a suspender on it.  Also figuring into combining my shotshell belt into the mix, shouldn't weigh more than 20 pounds.

Being as I plan to take a crack at a shoulder holster in the very near future, how would you rate this design in difficulty knucklehead? Same level of skill as your run of the mill ranger/money belt and holster setup, or is it trickier? Any tips on snags you encountered in the construction? Specific tools you used?

Any insight you can offer would be a huge help.

Thanks!

insight on this pattern:  open the pattern pack and read directions. then read again.
after reading the pattern directions about 4 times and tracing the patterns to my own paper so i can cut them out, i was able to understand it better.

the holster setup is fairly easy once you understand the directions.
what i did on making it a one piece holster is i lined up the front and back paterns edge to edge and traced them as one piece.
you will understand this once you see the pattern.

one thing you have to remember is sew the d rings onto the back of the holster before you glue in a liner and before you sew holster shut.
there are 3 d rings sewin onto the back of the holster to atach the belly strap to the holster.

only tools i used for this is a box knife, basket weave stamp, swivel knife, letter stamps, and the new texas star stamp from tandy leather.
and used my dremel with drill bit to make holes for stiching. used the cocobolo rub stick to slick edges and to help form the holster.
and used the hand gun for forming also.
used the bag punches to make the slots that the pattern called for. think i used 5/8" and 3/4" oblong bag punches

thats it. no special tools other than taking long time to buckle down and make the holster.

A year or two late and a dollar short! Thar's what I git for not getting out more!

This pattern was one I came up with so to keep the grain side showing to the front after being assembled. It weren't till a little after thought that I made some with the interior of the holster lined so to make the pouch a one-piece.

Great job on it! Just shows what a little modiification can do and is what this Trade is all about. ;D

Jim,
Good to see you on this forum!
I just finished one of the Brazos Jack holsters as well, but also did it as the one piece.
Wore it while deer hunting with my .357 Blackhawk, and it wore very comfortably for most of the day.
