I have had trouble from the git-go with DDs media sticking in the bottom of my 44-40 cases. By accident I discovered that if I double or triple the amount of liquid in the mix, the sticking goes to minimal. Last batch I had none.

I don't know about you guys and your high tech tumbling media.  I just use crushed walnut shells and throw in one of my wifes cornbread muffins.  They can wear down anything....

I had (have) trouble with the pieces sticking in my 45 Colt cases.  Since they're about the same inside as 44-40, that's no surprise.

I have now used my ceramic media around 10-12 times.  I'm getting fewer & fewer stuck inside with each use.  That's good!  I've tried more liquid solution - less solution - doesn't seem to matter as much as simply using them until they've "worn in" and perhaps rounded off the edges of the pieces.  Dick told me about the "break in" period needed.  When new, I was getting a piece or 2 of media stuck in about every 3rd case.  Now, it's improved to about every 10-13 cases.  Much better.  I'd be a lot less happy if the darn things didn't work/clean so darn good!

I just bought some media from SageOutfitters but would love to find a source for less than 50 pounds of the triangles to mix in with it.  Does anyone have a source for it?

Also, is there a home made mix for a burnishing liquid that likewise doesn't require the purchase of large minimum volumes of ingredients?

I've got both the SS media and DD's ceramic.  I've tried the SS on black powder rounds, but the ceramic works better on it for me.  It's a shame as I've yet to have a single SS rod get stuck in a case.  I use a hand crank separator filled with water to separate brass and media.

I tried the SS on some fired black powder cases and it cleaned them, but it was a dark burnished color.  This is before I got my hands on some lemishine.  May have to revisit and re test.

What I like about the SS media is I can clean bottle neck high power rounds like the 7.62 nato and 30-06, and it's clean and bright inside and out, primer pockets as well.

I've got real TSP, and tried it, but my normal "soap" is a good shot of Dawn and a tablespoon or so of Lemishine.  I used to use lemon juice, but the lemishine is easier to keep on hand.  I'm sure there's a lot of better soap combinations out there, but this works well for me and is fairly cheap.  YMMV
