I am ordering a holster rig for cowboy fast draw,,and I need to know,,which would fight 'tighter' in the leather,,a New Model Vaquero or a Colt clone ? I want to have the holster molded to the larger of the two. I know they are 'almost' the same, but a friend said I should have it molded to the NMV and the Colt would fix slightly loose...that being the best option for possibly switching between the NMV and Colt.

What say ye ?

I ordered my holsters from Cochiece Leather and when I did,I ordered for the Colt Clone ( Uberti Smoke Wagon ). I alternate back and forth with a Ruger Vaquero that I have. I don't think the little bit of difference in size between the two revolvers and holster fit is very noticeable. Not to me,at least.

The Ruger is slightly larger.  The cylinder is .025" larger in diameter and the gun weighs 4 ounces more than a Colt with the same barrel length and caliber.  Some holsters will accept both.  Some will be tight with the Ruger.  Depends on how the holster is cut and who makes it.  I have "Colt" holsters that work well with both.  I also have "Colt" holsters where the Ruger will get stuck and take both hands to get it out.

That explains why Larson wears that holster right, in the middle of his body.
