This is part 1 of my series on early lever action rifles. Part 2 will be on the Spencer rifle.

Old Top

Mike,

As usual a good over all as to the Henry, the only problem I have is loading, I beleive that you would be better served, and safer, by loading a a 45 or less angle on the barrel.  Other then that a good over view.

I only shoot to support my reloading habit.

Long Knife Rich

Thanks for another fine video. I'd say it's one of your best so far.

TwoWalks Baldridge

I always love the hostiles view at the end of your video's.

Another enjoyable as well as knowledge filled video, Thanks Mike

TwoWalks, wait 'till you see next week's video on the Spencer rifle. I think the hostile eye view of that rifle is really something!

It is always good to hear from someone who likes the "Bad guy's view" shots in the videos. I hear quite often from the nervous nellies who find that view offensive or even scary.

It's good to know that there are also people who do like it.

Big Bear Lowe

Another great video Mike.

I own and shoot a majority of the guns you make videos about and find that your videos are a great "refresher" and have actually rekindled my interests in some guns I have not shot for many years.  You are doing a great service to our sport with these videos and I urge you to continue the fine work.  Fond as I am of a curvy female, I do not think putting one in your videos would improve on your work.  P'raps I am gettin' old.  I wouldn't sweat the ratings on youtube.  The faithful know who you are, what you are doing, and where your work can be found.

Many thanks again to you pard!

Fingers McGee

Another great video Mike.  I'll second Old Top's comment about loading cartridges at an angle much less than verticle.  When I load mine in a match, The muzzle end of the barrel is just barely above 90 degrees so the bullets are more or less pushed in instead of dropped.  The few incidents at matches where a cartridge has gone off while loading has made a lot of CAS competitors nervous nellies when someone is loading their Henry.

You know, I was afraid of the loading comments. Typically I tuck a henry in the crook of my arm with the magazine on top. and slide rounds in, but I couldn't seem to get positioned right for the camera that way.

Pulp

I would think if one was careful about checking for high primers it would be as safe as any other tubular magazine rifle.

I too load my Henry at an angle and push the rounds in.  I imagine though that the original rim fire was loaded just like in your video.

BTW, I shoot warthog 45 colt in CAS and haven't had an issue with the hot barrel even in the summer.  Only real issue is after the stage the barrel is mighty hot to grip and carry to the unloading table.  Then again I've got pretty callused hands and work with hot metal at home, your milage may vary.

Good video, I take it yours is a 44-40?  In any even it's a good looking rifle with the engraving.
